Do you know that feeling when a knife is in your heart, twisting and turning? Do you know what it’s like to have a car run you over a million times? That’s how I’m feeling. Rage builds in me and, instead of screaming and yelling, I sit in front of Larry, numb and frozen.

“I can’t do this, Larry. I’m fucking human, you know? I have feelings!”
He brings me into his arms and tries to calm me down. “I know and that’s what I told him.”
I can’t give Nicholas what he needs, even though it’s what I truly want. I refuse to break up his marriage and be the one that he uses to escape from Jamie. If something is up and he’s doing this because she’s manipulating him, then that’s a different story and I’ll beg him to leave her. I don’t know the whole story and I’m not sure if I even will get the story. A little voice in my head keeps screaming at me to fight for the man I love. But I don’t know if that’s the right answer.

“I’m gonna go lie down. Thanks for the coffee,” I mutter.

Back in my room, in my safety area, I place the steaming cup of coffee on my nightstand and lie down, facing the balcony.

Tearing away from the sun rising, I force my mind back to sleep. It’s been the longest few nights without Nicholas. I don’t know where to go or what to do. I can’t forget him. Every time I close my eyes, I see his eyes, his smile; I see everything. My chest fills with ache. Sitting here crying over him while everyone else is living kills me. The fight in me is slowly going away. Unable to stand the silence I open my music app on my phone and play a song I haven’t heard in a few weeks - our song. It plays over and over again so I can remember our dance and how I felt when he was holding me. Everything feels heavy and miserable. I scream into my pillow and pray that I can be taken away. I don’t care if we weren't together for a long time. When it comes to love, there’s no measurement in time. It’s how love makes you feel and it made me feel whole. I’d give anything to feel that way again.

Happy Release Day~~ LOCKE by Harper Sloan

Darkness is the only thing I see. Ever since the day my life changed. The day that everything and everyone I held close to me ceased to exist. The day I lost it all and the demons of my past consumed my every waking moment.

I tried to keep others at arm’s length. Tried not to let my darkness taint them. Ruin them. Harm them. And whether I want to admit it or not, as much as I wish I could keep them locked out, they refuse to leave. Refuse to let me suffer alone.

If I hadn’t been so focused on keeping those demons from flying free, I wouldn’t have missed how one perfect angel was able to sneak her way under my skin—refusing to let go. Making me want things I don’t deserve.

She consumes me. Her beauty knows no end. The love she promises tempts me every time she’s near. But that pure heart that makes her MY Emmy is the one thing I’m convinced I’ll destroy if I ever let her close.

I’m a broken man. A broken man with too much darkness in his soul to ever let her light shine upon me. But even that doesn’t stop me from craving her with every single breath in my body.

**This is the final book in the Corps Security series. This book is not suitable for younger readers. There is strong language, adult situations, and some violence.*

5 Amazeballs Stars!
I have waited patiently for this book and it did not disappoint. Locke was all the alpha and hotness I expected, of course carrying around his own problem that allow for him to want to push Emmy away. As these two crashed together I really felt their strength, love, and the power of it all. This series pulled me in from the beginning and with each book I fell more and more for the Corps men...Sad to see this series end but Harper Sloan went out with a Bang.....

Oh Jolene and Cam! Jolene has spent a decade being forced into a life she had no control over, when they chance arises she escapes but is always looking over her shoulder. When she flees to a beach house in Florida she stumbles upon Dr. Surfer Man Cam! He is intelligent and has spent years helping victims of human trafficking overcome what was done to them. He immediately senses something is off about Jolene but is attracted to her. As he spends time with her, at her pace, allowing her to open up he realizes more and more what she endures and as their love builds the past comes back to bite them. Can they overcome it all for love.. can Jolene find her light?
“I love you, I've been struggling with this for awhile now. But this, what we have here... I haven't experienced anything like this before. And maybe its rash. Maybe its stupid. But I'm not going to ignore what I feel for you. I love you.”
Although this book touches on a dark subject it is powerful and you just fall in love with each and every character. Cam you are a Sexy Dr. Surfer Man!!
“Why don’t you like being touched?” he asked quietly in a bold move. Jolene stopped dead in her tracks, glaring at him. “I just don’t, alright?” she hissed, her voice raised. “And it’s none of your fucking business why I act the way I do. I see what you’re trying to do, Doctor.” She spun around and stormed back toward the house, wanting to get far away from his prying, yet consoling, eyes. “What, Jolene? What am I doing? I just want to get to know you. I want to spend time with you, and I need to know why certain things set you off so that I don’t do them!” He ran along the shore, catching up to her, stopping short when he almost reached out and grabbed her arm to force her to talk to him. Feeling him approach behind her, she reeled around. The expression on her face was fierce. “You’ve been a therapist for far too long. You need to get it out of your head that you can help me.” The ocean wind whipped her hair in front of her face and her voice rose in anger. “You can’t! No one can! So just stop! Stop taking an interest in me! Stop with the whole nice guy act because, based on my experience, that’s all it is!” she cried through her tears, her voice becoming barely audible. “A fucking act.” She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply before opening them, the pain of what she had experienced the past decade of her life visible in the look of unease on her face. She took a step closer, her eyes remaining glued to Cam’s. “You show up on my doorstep acting like my savior when the world has gone to shit. You tell me how you’ll look after me and protect me. And you know what those are?” She could see the hurt that her words were causing him, but she didn’t care. “Lies, Cam,” she said quietly. “Just lies. You say you’ll help me and watch over me, but you’ll turn. I can’t… I can’t go through that again. Please. I beg you. Just stay away from me.” She spun around and began walking briskly away from him. “You don’t have to do this, Jolene!” he shouted, running to catch up with her. “You don’t have to choose fear.” “Yes, I do,” she insisted, turning to face him once more. “It’s the only way that he won’t…” “You can choose me instead,” he interrupted. Her breath caught at his unexpected reply. “Cam, I…” She trailed off, hiding her tear-filled eyes. “Don’t let your fear control you, Jolene,” he implored, his voice soft. He brought his body close to hers. “Please, choose me, not fear.”

What inspired you to write heart of light?

I wrote Heart of Light because i wanted people to realize that human trafficking is a growing problem not just in third world countries, but in our own backyard. This is a 9.5 billion dollar industry in the U.S. alone and I wanted people to understand what a problem it is.

How long did you ponder heart of light before writing it?

Not too long really. I don't outline or anything. I consider my rough draft to be an outline. I had an idea and just wanted to get it written down (or typed out, I guess.)

What was the hardest part of writing heart of light?

The more violent scenes. For anyone familiar with my work, you know that I don't glorify violence or criminal acts. I write with the mindset that sometimes what the camera doesn't show you is sometimes more poignant than what it does, allowing the reader to fill in the blanks instead of describing in detail. But I couldn't ignore the brutality that occurs in human trafficking, so there are a number of particularly violent scenes that were difficult to write but were integral to the story and understanding the growth of the characters throughout the book.

Was there a specific author who you considered your mentor?

Not really. I started writing with no intentional of publishing and I'm been navigating this indie world, just trying to hold on. If anyone's been my mentor, it's actually been my street team. They're the first people I go to when I want honest input.

What can you tell me about your current projects?

Oh, boy. I've got quite a few. Heart of Marley is next, which is a bit of a prequel to Heart of Light (more on that in a bit.) After that's finalized, I'll be switching gears and writing a romantic comedy titled "The Other Side of Someday". This is the story of a girl who leaves her home in North Carolina after walking in on her husband (now ex) sleeping with her best friend. So she heads to Los Angeles to start over and she finds herself dating for the first time, having married her high school sweet heart. So it'll be a lighter read about trying to find Mr. Right in a world full of Mr. Wrongs.

Who are your favorite authors to read?

Stephen King, Carl Hiaasen, Hunter S. Thompson, John Steinbeck, and F. Scott Fitzgerald

What is the best part of being an author?

Being able to connect with my readers. I love hearing from readers after they've read something of mine, and they feel like these characters I've created are real. Which is great, because in my mind, they're real people.

Heart of Marley is your next release what should we expect?

Heart of Marley is a bit of a prequel to Heart of Light. In Heart of Light, Cam tells a story about his sister Marley. Heart of Marley begins with that story and progresses through their senior year of high school. It is a full-length stand alone novel and you don't have to have read Heart of Light to understand this story. It's a definite ugly cry book and deals with the issue of depression and the potential ramifications of failing to get treatment or therapy for it. You'll also get another piece of the puzzle to Cam's character in this book. It's a New Adult Coming of Age novel. It's the first that I've written in this genre. I never thought I could write New Adult, but I really liked exploring Cam and Marley's relationship while they were in high school.

About the Author

Hi, I'm SJ. A coffee addict, lover of chocolate and drinker of good red wines. I'm a lost soul and a hopeless romantic. Reading and writing are necessary parts of who I am. Though perhaps not as necessary as coffee! I can drink coffee without writing, but I can't write without coffee.

I grew up loving romance novels, my first boyfriends were book boyfriends, but life intervened, as it tends to do, and I wandered down the paths of non fiction for many years. My life changed completely a couple of years ago and I returned to Romance to find my escape.

I write 'Sweet N Steamy' stories because to me there is enough angst and darkness in real life. My favorite romances are happy escapes with a focus on fun, friendships and happily-ever-afters, just like the ones I write.

These days I live in beautiful Montana, the last best place. If I'm not reading or writing you'll find me just down the road in the park - Yellowstone. I have deer, eagles and the occasional bear for company, and I like it that way :0)
